- A new search capacity takes place for the Copilot application
- It gives users of Windows 11 and 10 a search fueled by AI, offering requests in natural language
- Copilot can also take a look inside the files and find relevant information you need, save your legs
Windows 11 gets a new ability to Copilot to help you find files on your PC and quickly glean these files, if you wish.
The latest Windows reports according to which the extensive research powers facilitated by AI, which were previously in the tests (a few months ago) with Windows 11, are now taking place at all users (including those of Windows 10).
Windows folk has already obtained the new feature of the Copilot application and tested it, is generally impressed by functionality.
It allows the user to launch a local search for the PC – although there are limits to the covered locations (I will come back) – in the Copilot application simply by typing a request for natural language. For example: “Find my CV for this job request that I made last year.”
Obviously, it is pleasant to have the possibility of simply looking for a question like this, rather than trying to use Windows research itself and (try to find the best request-after all, which can remember the names of exact files, in particular with older files?
Analysis: a fairly useful feature … with some warnings
Windows the last observes that this co -pilot search is fast, because it is a local search – which also includes all the synchronized files in OneDrive – and uses Windows research itself. In other words, there is no expectation that the COPILOT application sends data to the cloud, or wait for a response from Microsoft’s servers – everything happens on the device, and therefore it is quite Nippy.
The research provided is also better than a Windows 11 basic search – even if it is always like the request is ultimately resolved – as you can use natural language as indicated. Indeed, it is a kind of alternative of fortune to clever search for a clever in Windows 11 which is offered with Copilot + PCS – and I am happy to see it, because most of us do not have one of these devices (I certainly do not).
In addition to that, the Copilot application search also allows you to surface information from files that you hunt without even opening it. So, if you are looking for a document file full of recipes, and you want a particular recipe for a curry, for example, you can ask exactly that – and it extract it from the document there and then.
This research fueled by COPILOTE also allows you to bypass some of the bugs with the Windows 11 Standard search functionality (even if it still uses the latter to obtain results).
Okay, so it all seems good overall – but everything is not soft scent. There is a notable thorn in that the scope of the search is limited to commonly used files (which means that obscure file formats may not appear). In addition, by default, the locations covered by this AI search are limited to your essential personal files (such as documents and downloads). However, you can develop this access access and give access to the co -pilot to other files if you wish.
The more thorny problem for many, however, will be privacy. It is important to note that this research capacity is deactivated by default, which is good, and frankly necessary, since there are many people who are very opposed to Copilot “ ourage in their ” ‘files.
It should also be noted that there is not only a rocking to activate the local file search capacity of Copilot, but also a separate cursor to allow the AI to read your files. The latter is obviously necessary for the co -pilot to surface the material inside a file (like the aforementioned curry recipe), so if you want to make this tip, you will obviously have to leave the nose of the co -pilot in your belongings.
If you do not want AI to have this type of access, you can always use the functionality, but leave this second cursor alone and it will not look like your files (but you will only get the basic search in the Copilot application).
There will still be many skeptics around this type of functionality, the mind, but as long as it is disabled by default, it will not be a problem – you can take it or leave it. If this feature seems useful to you, you can go ahead and activate it – with the apparently in progress deployment, it should, hopefully, appear on all Windows 11 and 10 PCs too long.
