The Senate condemns the murder of honor of Balutchistan

Islamabad:

On Thursday, the Senate unanimously adopted a resolution, condemning the public and illegal execution of a couple in broad daylight in Balutchistan, allegedly on the orders of a so-called Jirga in the name of “honor”.

The resolution, moved by senator Sherry Rehman for his own name and on behalf of the senators Mohammad Abdul Qadir, Jan Muhammad, Mohsin Aziz, Haji Hidayatullah Khan, Kamil Ali Agha, Raja Nasir Abbas, Palwasha Mohamd Zai Khan, Irfan-Ul-Haqued-Hae-Haque, Siddiqui, Muratulair And Syed Faisal Ali Subzwari, was adopted by the house during his session on July 24.

The resolution condemned the odious and premeditated act as an odious crime and a blatant violation of human rights, the Constitution and the laws of Pakistan. He said that such barbaric murders should not be justified by cultural or tribal practices and stressed that the concept of “honor” cannot replace constitutional protections.

He stressed that despite existing legal guarantees, the implementation in the field remains weak, leading to the subversion of justice, in particular in the target cases.

The room has resolved that these so-called honor killings constitute a murder and should be prosecuted under relevant laws without compromise. He called on the government to ensure an immediate and transparent investigation into recent murders and bring all those involved – including those who have summoned or sanctioned any Jirga – to justice without delay.
