ISLAMABAD:
The Senate on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution condemning Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s comments regarding a proposed alliance with India and other countries to counter Muslim nations.
The resolution proposed by PPP’s Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan deplored continued provocative measures and statements by Israeli leaders that threatened regional and international peace and stability, including the latest statement on forming “alliances” against Muslim nations.
Addressing a cabinet meeting on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country “will create a whole system – essentially a sort of hexagon of alliances – around or within the Middle East,” the Times of Israel reported.
Netanyahu listed India, Greece, Cyprus and “unnamed Arab, African and Asian countries,” the report added.
“The intention here is to create an axis of countries that see reality, challenges and objectives in the same way, unlike the radical axes,” he was quoted as saying.
The Indian Prime Minister is also expected to visit Israel on Wednesday (today).
In its resolution adopted today, the Senate also condemned any attempt by Israel to undermine “the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of brotherly Islamic countries and rejected” Israel’s announcement recognizing the independence of the so-called Somaliland region in Somalia.
The resolution strongly opposed statements seen as undermining regional stability and international legal standards.
The Chamber criticized Israel’s policies and actions, citing disregard for international law, the United Nations Charter, relevant United Nations resolutions and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.
The Senate rejected any attempt to change the legal or historical status of the occupied Palestinian territories, including the holy sites, and condemned the expansion of settlements and the displacement of Palestinians.
The Chamber deplored what it described as continued provocative measures and statements by Israeli leaders that could threaten regional and international peace.
The resolution also condemns any attempt to undermine the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Islamic countries, while rejecting Israel’s announcement recognizing the independence of Somaliland as incompatible with international principles.
The Senate urged the international community to ensure accountability and end impunity for actions violating international humanitarian and human rights laws.
He demanded Israel’s full withdrawal from the occupied territories and called for increased, sustained and unhindered humanitarian assistance for the Palestinians, particularly in Gaza.
The Chamber emphasized the need for rapid recovery and reconstruction efforts and reiterated Pakistan’s historic and unwavering support for the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.
The resolution reaffirmed its support for the creation of an independent, viable and contiguous State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
