The survey for the elections in the Senate is in full swing in the assemblies of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, with a total of 36 seats to be won in the two regions.
In Punjab, the survey started at 9 a.m. and should continue until 4 p.m. The Muslim League of Pakistan in Power-Nawaz (PML-N) appointed the Whip-in-Chief Rana Arshad as a survey agent, with opposition members such as Rana Shahbaz representing the interests of the opposition.
Meanwhile, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a total of 25 candidates appear for 11 seats in the Senate, including 7 general seats, 2 technocratic seats and 2 female seats.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-insaf (PTI) and the opposition parties, notably Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), presented their candidates to these seats.
Elections officials confirmed that, from the first reports, 130 votes were expressed in the Punjab assembly on 369 members in total.
The media coverage was limited in the polling stations of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with a strong police presence ensuring the smooth driving of the elections.
The electoral commission also said that candidates who withdraw after the deadline at 12 noon on Sunday will have their names listed on the ballot, with a “retired” stamp to designate their withdrawal.
