The Sindh government has unveiled plans to rationalize all carpooling services in Karachi by implementing a unified regulatory framework, in parallel with the introduction of an electric vehicle taxi network (EV).

The announcement was made at a high -level meeting of the Sindh transport department, chaired by the main minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.

The meeting also included key officials such as the special assistant of chief Minister Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar, the transport secretary Asad Zaman and the Sindh Mass Transit Authority MD Kamal Dayo.

Minister Memon stressed that the unified system would improve the quality of services, would ensure passenger safety and promote the transparency of prices across the city.

“We are working to provide all taxi services in a unique and effective system that guarantees the transparency of prices and strict vehicle inspections,” he said.

As part of its green transport strategy, the Sindh government also accelerates the launch of an EV taxi service to modernize the city’s taxi network and reduce environmental pollution.

Efforts are underway to make taxis EV more accessible thanks to easy financing options, including payment plans.

The government also focuses on sex mobility by introducing a pink scooter program for women. In the first phase, 1,000 pink scooters will be distributed free of charge to working women and students.

“This initiative reflects our commitment to the empowerment of women and their access to safe and reliable transport,” said Memon.

In addition, the Sindh government plans to eliminate traditional buses in Karachi, move them to other districts and replace them with electric buses.

Double floor buses are expected to arrive in June, with additional buses expected in early July.

To support this transition, the government is working on the development of infrastructure, including EV charging stations and designated car parks.
