The Sindh budget offers a 15% increase for 32 public universities

The Sindh government has approved a 15% increase in the annual subsidy for the province’s public sector universities, passing the total RS34 billion allowance to 40 billion rupees for the year 2025-26.

According to officials, the increase in the increase – submitted by the Sindh Higher Education Commission – was approved by chief Minister Murad Ali Shah before the provincial budget presented on June 13. The improved subsidy was incorporated into the annual budget.

The recommendation to increase the subsidy was made by a committee led by the former vice-chancellor of NED University, Dr. Sarosh Hashmat Lodi. With this approval, the 32 public universities of the Sindh will see a corresponding increase of 15% of their individual financing allowances.

After the increase, the University of Karachi’s grant will now amount to 3.554 billion rupees, while the Sindh University in Jamshoro will receive 3.410 billion rupees. The NED university of engineering and technology will receive 2.578 billion rupees, and the University of MEHRAN engineering and technology will receive 2.149 billion rupees.

The subsidy of the Dow University of Health Sciences was raised to RS1.294 billion, while the Jinnah Sindh Medical University will receive 1,176 billion rupees. The grant from the University of Medical Sciences and Liaquat Health has been increased to Rs1.595 billion.

Among the business schools, the Sukkur IBA University will receive 1.916 billion rupees and IBA Karachi received 692 million rupees. The Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam, was allocated to 2,259 billion rupees.

Other allowances include 498 million rupees for the Government College University Hyderabad, 1.812 billion rupees for the University of Dawood Engineering and Technology, and 1.645 billion rupees for the Shah Abdul Latif Khairpur University.

In addition, Sindh Madressatul Islam University will receive 684 million rupees, Karachi Metropolitan University RS284 million and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Lyari, 376 million rupees.
