The Sindh government has announced a firm position against restaurants and other commercial establishments that decrease debit and credit card payments for customers.
Managers have said that strict measures will be taken against companies such as restaurants, shopping centers, cafes and Biryani centers that do not offer this payment center to customers, The news reported.
In a decision to enforce consumer rights, the Sindh Consumer Protection Authority, operating within the framework of the Offer Prix Office, has already launched measures by issuing opinions to several eminent restaurants located in the Clifton region in Karachi.
These establishments would have received official opinions for violation of the 2014 law on the protection of Sindh consumer, and legal proceedings began against them.
The director general Zahid Hussain Shar underlined the government’s commitment to ensure that companies offer customers practical payment options.
In a statement, he clearly indicated that all the restaurants in the province, including those of Karachi, will face strict legal action if they do not offer the ease of payment by debit or credit card.
He also declared that the government had taken note of the issue under article 23 (4) of the authority based on public complaints.
DG Shar said that appropriate legal measures will be taken against this serious violation, and an investigation has been launched to relieve consumers.
Deputy Director Mir Shahnawaz has issued strict guidelines to companies to immediately stop this violation.
Restaurant owners have been invited to appear personally or send their authorized representatives to the Office of Authority to respond to the opinion. It has been specified that non-compliance will lead to strict legal action under relevant laws.
Shar has sent a clear message that it is the responsibility of companies to provide customers with several payment options, and that no negligence in this regard will be tolerated. He stressed that consumer rights will be saved at all costs.
