- The Ultra Compact Seagate SSD has a striking resemblance to a boost
- The price can be a snack for users, and performance leaves much to be desired
- The slow disappearance of flash discs works on
The new portable SSD of Seagate is small but powerful, and can well mark another nail in the coffin for flash readers.
The new ultra-compact SSD of the company, which is available in 1 TB format and 2 TB, has an elegant small design that looks more like a thumbs up or a high-end USB key than a portable SSD.
Complete with a USB-C port, the SSD includes a monobloc aluminum shell and measurements at 2.7 x 0.7 x 0.34 inches. In particular, Seagate had in mind sustainability during development, the reader made at least 35% recycled materials. From the point of view of sustainability, it can also take a slight blow, being noted for drops up to three meters while presenting dust resistance capacities and IP54 water – so how does it correspond to other industry counterparts?

As mentioned, the reader is available in 1 TB options and 2 TB. These two offer sequential reading and writing speeds up to 1,000 Mbps.
PCMARK 10 tests on the trace by Tom material have shown that it was not up to the task with other options available on the market. On transfer rates, the reader “does not impress either” – in particular on reading speeds.
His writing speed of 512 Mbps classified it in fourth place behind the Silicon Power DS72 (1 TB), the Silicon Power MS70 (1 TB) and the Pny Pro Elite 3 (1 TB). Tom material In addition, with a mixed line reading speed of 570 Mbps, this remains a fairly impressive performance for such a compact drive.
However, a particular area that users can find are backup recovery options. The SSD is shipped with Seagate Rescue Data Recovery Service, covering users up to three years.
All in all, the SSD is an impressive kit for your everyday user. The capacities can be lacking in certain regions, but its compact design will probably be a draw.
However, there is a major detail that could extinguish customers: the price. The 1 TB option is £ 90.99, making it an intermediate option compared to the other available discs. The price jump to version 2 TB – at a price of $ 179.99 – could be shocking.
