- Nvidia collaborates with Google and Disney to create a physical engine for robotics
- The open source engine is titled Newton and should be launched later this year
- The CEO of Nvidia, Jensen Huang, revealed Blue, a robot inspired by Star Wars using Newton for a complete simulation in real time
The CEO of Nvidia, Jensen Huang, announced a new collaboration between the company, Google Deepmind, and Disney Research which gives life to the robots of Star Wars powered by AI.
Mounted Tuesday on the stage of Nvidia GTC 2025, Huang revealed Blue, a research robot inspired by Star Wars capable of an incredible movement similar to those seen in your favorite science fiction films.
Companies have teamed up to create Newton, the physics engine behind the robot movement, which should be published in open source later this year.
Huang said, “Can you believe that you are considering a complete simulation in real time? This is how we are going to train robots in the future. Blue has two Nvidia computers inside.” The CEO of Nvidia continued to interact with Blue on stage before telling the robot to go home.
Nvidia’s press release reads as follows: “Newton is open source, empowering the entire robotics community. This allows roboticists to freely use and distribute the framework and contribute to advanced research to its development.”
Now, all of this is very proof of concept for the consumer, when the collaboration Nvidia, Google and Disney means for you and me? Well, we might not harvest the awards so early, but after seeing Blue in action on stage, I am convinced that Disney’s dream to have Disney World droids will now become a reality.
In fact, last week, an Axios de SXSW report said Disney planned to present the robots in its entertainment parks at some point this year.
To watch
I always wanted a robot, please do this reality
You know, the robots are quite frightening, I understand. But as a person who is constantly having trouble dealing with the stress of life in the 21st century, I would jump absolutely when having a Star Wars droid at home.
Although I like my French bulldog, Kermit, he cannot do the dishes, he cannot do the dishes, and he is sure that devil cannot understand what I say (even if I think he chooses to ignore me).
Now, this concept of a cute little robot doing all my tasks in my house will not happen soon, but Newton’s physical engine makes it a real possibility in the near future, and I am sold on this idea.
Give me a robot that can make my life easier thanks to the power of the AI and I will contract a loan to get one. My productivity would climb, my mental health would improve and, above all, I would never have to wash the dishes again.
