Karachi: A powerful thunderstorm brought both the respite of heat and the disruption of daily life through Karachi late Thursday, while more than 200 electric feeders have stumbled, plunging large parts of the city in darkness.
According to information, several areas of the port city, including Surjani Town, Malir, North Karachi, II Chundrigar Road, Gulshan-E-Hadeed and GaDap, were witnesses to strong showers accompanied by lightning and thunder. The rain also struck Clifton, Defense, Scheme 33, North Nazimabad, Model Colony, Safoora, Korangi, Landhi and Saadi Town.
In the aftermath of the brief heavy showers, residents in many parts of the megapacity were left without electricity.
The spokesperson for the city’s electricity supplier, K-Electric, confirmed the trips in charge of food in Gulshan-E-Maymar, Surjani, Nazimabad and Gulshan-E-Iqbal, leading to breakdowns in New Karachi, to Jamshed Town, in the ancient city and the surrounding localities.
Maripur, Lyari, Keamari, Hawks Bay and Quaidabad were, among other areas also affected by breakdowns. Meanwhile, food has also been suspended in the GDP colony, the Pechs and certain parts of Korangi.
Precautionary stop: KE initiates catering
A spokesperson for K-Electric said that electricity had been closed preventively in low areas as a safety measure. The restoration work was launched as soon as the rain stopped, noted the spokesperson.
The supply of electricity was restored in key areas such as Allama Iqbal Road, Tariq Road, Clifton Blocks 1, 2 and 6, as well as for the colony of Punjab, the Colony of Delhi, the Sindhi Muslim Society, Nazimabad, Nishtar Colony, Jahangir Road and parts of Liaquatabad and the C-1 region.
The public service also confirmed that the offer had been restored in Ameenabad, Nusrat Bhutto Road and in the industrial area in marble.
Although the supply of phase 1 defense has been disrupted at 11 p.m., it has since been restored, according to residents.
Meanwhile, the residents of Clifton Block 5 and Yasenabad in Gulshan-E-Shameem reported renewed breakdowns.
Currently, an uninterrupted power is delivered thanks to 1,750 of the city’s 2,100 feeders, said KE, adding that the power supply was restored in the Gulshan-E-Maymar S and T sectors, Gulshan-E-Hadeed Phase 2, PCSIR and the Karachi University Society.
Meanwhile, residents have told PK Press Club News that the power supply had been suspended at Garden West Fawara Chowk since midnight.
Mayor Wahab inspects the water situation
The mayor of Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, started visits to the field shortly after the rain is stopped. He was accompanied by the municipal commissioner Afzal Zaidi. They visited several areas, including Khayaban-E-Hilal, Clifton, South District and the surrounding regions of the defense.
The mayor also visited Governor House, the Sindh Assembly, the Supreme Court building and the Karachi Press Club, as well as the house of the Minister of Chief. During his visit, he examined the post-pounded arrangements. The municipal commissioner informed him that drainage work was underway.
In a movement to ensure 24 -year emergency intervention, Wahab ordered that municipal staff remain on alert and stand in suspension.
The commissioner confirmed that the suction pumps and the staff had been deployed in the low localities of the city.
The provincial minister issues emergency instructions
Meanwhile, the Minister of Sindh of Rehabilitation and President of the Province of Management of Disasters (PDMA), Makhdoom Mehboob-Uzaman, asked the PDMA officials to closely monitor the rain situation through the province.
He ordered the 1122 rescue teams to respond quickly to emergencies and avoid making drawbacks to the public.
The Minister underlined the need to provide maximum relief and installations to affected citizens.
