The first comes from reputed tipster Evan Blass who used his private ” who reached out to tell them that while the S25 Slim will be available in 39 markets, the US won’t be one of them – but the UK and Australia are.
All leaks should be taken with a pinch of salt – especially the Phone Arena leak as we can’t name or verify the source of the information – but it wouldn’t be the first ‘thin’ Samsung gadget to boast of ‘a limited version in recent years.
For example, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim, which ended up being called Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 SE (Special Edition), was only released in South Korea and China when it arrived last year. The S25 Slim appears to have a slightly wider version, but again not as wide as Samsung’s flagship devices.
The only question we ask is why would the United States be specifically ignored? Given that Samsung’s home market is South Korea, it makes sense that some releases would be limited to that market alone, or to South Korea and a handful of neighboring Asian territories, as we saw with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 SE. However, if it launches more widely, ignoring the US – the third-largest smartphone market behind India and China – seems odd.
The only justification we can think of is that Samsung is worried about possible US tariffs that new President Trump has threatened to impose on various US imports, particularly those from China, where many smartphones are manufactured. If Samsung plans to produce the S25 Slim in a region from which Trump imposes tariffs on imports, then it might decide that marketing the phone in the United States won’t be worth it. While waiting to see precisely what Trump’s plans are, Samsung could do it. take the route of under-projecting and over-delivering if the prices do not have as much impact as expected.
A Slim by any other name would be just as slim
Beyond borrowing its more limited version, the S25 Slim can also copy the name of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim, that is to say not be called Slim. That’s according to Blass who, in a separate article, asked why we expect the so-called Galaxy S25 Slim to be marked as such while the Z Fold 6 Slim was not.
That’s not to say the S25 Slim won’t be a thin device – with a Digital Chat Station leak on Weibo claiming the Slim and the rumored iPhone 17 Air will be around 5-6mm thick. Such an upgrade has already been hinted at by rumors suggesting that it will feature a 200 MP main camera instead of the 50 MP expected for the base Galaxy S25 smartphone.
