The sugar shortage persists despite a new supply

Rawalpindi:

The current sugar crisis in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad has only experienced marginal improvement, the instability of the persistent market.

On Monday, 600 bags of sugar was provided at the Rawalpindi district by local sweets at the request of the administration. However, the limited stock was quickly consumed, raising little to mitigate the wider shortage.

With more than 18,000 grocery stores operating in twin cities, the whole shipping was quickly acquired by wholesale dealers, leaving practically no offer available for retail consumers. Consequently, many groceries through Rawalpindi have exhausted their sugar broth.

On the free market, sugar is currently sold at Rs210 to Rs220 per kilogram, depending on the area. Despite the severity of the crisis, there is no coordinated distribution mechanism between sweets, brokers, wholesalers and retail merchants.

The high -level meetings held in Lahore and Islamabad have produced no exploitable results.

The wholesale of sugar has been suspended in the last 13 days, causing stocks in most retail stores. These few stores which still hold stocks would be sold at RS210 per kg in central areas and up to Rs220 per kg in the surrounding localities.
