- UNFI makes progress towards recovery, but warns that delays could continue
United Natural Foods Inc (UNI) says that it makes “significant progress” towards the restoration of electronic control systems in complete safety, and increases operational capacity, following a recent major cyberattack which caused delays and generalized system stops.
In a press release, a UNI, one of the largest food distributors in North America, reassured the customers he works to increase his operational capacity and his satisfaction of orders.
“We also use alternative processes to ensure that our customers receive the products we need while we continue to progress to restore our technological capacities,” the press release said. “Our customers, suppliers and associates remain our highest priority, and we work in close collaboration with them at each stage of the path.”
Unknown attackers
The magnitude of the attack is not yet known, and no criminal group has claimed responsibility, although investors have been informed that the entire UNFI network had been closed – a decision that meant that client orders could not be respected.
The UNNI has not revealed the nature of the attack, but generally an organization closing its network is an indication that it was a ransomware attack.
Organizations put off -line systems to prevent additional devices from being encrypted by attackers, and it can mitigate the risk of data exfiltration and protect sensitive information.
The UNU is a main distributor of the retail giant Whole Foods, which was seriously affected by the attack, which occurs shortly after three massive British retailers were affected by cyberattacks who have put offline systems and disturbed operations for weeks.
