The Supreme Court decided Thursday to examine state prohibitions on transgender athletes participating in public school sports.
The oral arguments will probably be heard later this fall concerning two cases in Idaho and Virginia-Western. Both cases focus on the laws of states that prevent biological men from competing on girls’ sports teams.
“It’s a big day, because female athletes in Virginia-Western will be heard their voices,” said Virginia-Western Prosecutor John McCuskey in a statement. “The inhabitants of Virginia-Western know that it is unfair to let the male athletes compete with women; which is why we have adopted this common sense law preserving female sports for women.”
“We are convinced that the Supreme Court will respect the Save Women’s Sports Act, because it complies with the American Constitution and complies with title IX,” said McCuskey. “And above all: he protects women and girls, making sure that the playground is safe and just.”
