With flooding announcements on all sides of Nintendo Direct, it is easy to get caught in the excitement and miss important details.
One of which is not all Mario Sunshine And Daisies: Unfortunately, you will not be able to play all your Switch 1 games on the Switch 2.
This is due to the way Nintendo built switch 2 because, interesting, it “does not contain any switch equipment”.
This does not mean that you will not be able to move one of your favorite titles to the new system, but it means that you will not see the same type of compatibility you have seen between the DS and the 3DS.
Here’s what you need to know.
The Switch 2 focuses on “improving its performance as a material”
Now the incompatibility between certain Switch games and the new Nintendo Switch 2 is delivered with a reasonable explanation.
In flight. 16 of the Nintendo applicant conference, Kouichi Kawamoto (producer, entertainment planning and development department), Takuhiro Dohta (Senior Director, Entertainment Planning and Development Department) and Tetsuya Sasaki (Director General, Division of Technological Development) has accepted issues on the development of the new Nintendo console.
When asked if the team had “already decided[d] on this functionality when [they] First planned the development of a new dedicated game system “, the team stressed that compatibility was indeed a consideration. Even so, it was not as simple as the porting of Wii U.
The first focus with the Switch 2 was rather “on improving its performance as a material, namely the widening of its capacity. Thus, compatibility was a lower priority”.
This meant creating a reworked system without original switching equipment under the hood. Sasaki comments: “It is difficult to explain … Maybe the easiest way to understand it is that the methods used to achieve compatibility between Nintendo DS and Nintendo 3DS, and between Switch and Switch 2, are completely different.”
Kawamoto is added to that: “In simple terms, these systems were compatible because Nintendo 3DS contained the Nintendo DS equipment, and Wii U contained the Wii equipment. However, Switch 2 contains no switching equipment.”
If you are courageous enough to check if your favorite game has made the trip, Nintendo has published and continues to update a full list of Switch games that are not compatible with Switch 2.
It’s not all dark and woe, however
This does not mean that Switch 2 will not perform any games from the OG switch. Most of your favorites work very well thanks to what Dohta explains is “something that is between a software emulator and hardware compatibility”.
It is also important to note that almost all Nintendo titles in the first part are available on the new switch 2 (except for Fitness boxing).
Sasaki continues: “There are games that went well due to the material configuration of the switching system. Communicator 2, on the other hand, has increased treatment capacities and an enlarged memory capacity, which could theoretically cause part of these games, we have found that certain problems could be resolved by making improvements. This process has helped us find it for many games.”
In fact, thanks to the new and improved equipment of Switch 2, some of your essential games can even work better. The team mentioned seeing shorter loading times and a more stable gameplay in some cases.
You will also see the arrival of new features like GameChat, which allows you to discuss and share the screen with up to 12 players at a time. It could be a home run for party games, ultimately improving the experience of spending time with your friends at 2 years old.
Overall, it is worth checking the list of games that will work on the Switch 2 to make sure that your favorites are not on the list of red lights. The good news is that the majority of Switch titles will work on Switch 2, which will be launched on June 5 and will be available for pre -order from April 9.
