ISLAMABAD:
Operation “Ghazab Lil Haq” entered its eighth consecutive day on Friday, with security forces continuing their ground and air operations against the Afghan Taliban and “Fitna al-Khawarij”, the term used to refer to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Sources said the army continues to carry out effective ground and air actions. They added that the military strategy inflicted heavy losses on the Afghan Taliban and forced them to retreat during the ongoing operation.
On Friday, security sources said 527 members of the Afghan Taliban regime had been killed, while more than 755 others had been injured since the start of the operation. They added that 237 checkpoints were also destroyed during the campaign.
Officials said Pakistani forces captured 38 posts and later destroyed them during the operation. Furthermore, security sources indicated that 205 tanks, armored vehicles and artillery pieces belonging to the Afghan Taliban forces had also been destroyed.
Additionally, 62 locations across Afghanistan were effectively targeted in air operations. Officials said the military continues to take effective and decisive actions in response to the unprovoked aggression of the Afghan Taliban.
During the operation, Pakistani forces also destroyed terrorist hideouts located along the Pakistan-Afghan border in areas adjacent to Zhob and Qila Saifullah sectors. The Afghan Taliban were forced to abandon their posts and flee.
Security sources said Pakistani forces used heavy artillery fire to target posts manned by the Afghan Taliban and ‘Fitna al-Khawarij’ during the operation. The officials added that Operation ‘Ghazab Lil Haq’ would continue until its objectives were achieved.
At the same time, the United Nations said thousands of Pakistanis have been forced from their homes because of fighting along their shared border.
“Clashes along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border have forced thousands of families to flee,” the UN refugee agency said in a statement.
“The situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan remains tense amid active conflict along the border, with reports of internal displacement in both countries,” UNHCR said, warning that “around 115,000 people in Afghanistan and around 3,000 people in Pakistan” have been displaced.
