The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has published an flooding alert of the GLAcial lake bulb (GLOF) for northern regions in the middle of a high persistent temperature combination, of intensification of the monsoon activity and a dominant outsourcing meteorological system.
According to a statement from the National Emergency Operation Center, sustained heat in recent weeks has led to accelerated snow and the melting of glaciers. Combined with rains and thunderstorms during monsoon, the risk of sudden floods of the ice explosion has increased considerably.
“The valleys identified as very vulnerable – including Reshun, Brep, Booni, Sardar Gol, Thalu 1 and 2, Badswat, Hinarchi, Darkut and Hundur – are at high risk,” said NDMA.

Sudden explosions of glacial lakes could trigger sudden floods, constituting serious threats to human life, livestock, agriculture and critical infrastructure. Roads, bridges and communication networks can also undergo disturbances, especially in remote areas.
The authorities have urged residents, tourists and hikers to avoid areas and banks adjacent to glaciers in places identified during this high -risk period. “Stay informed by official alerts and cooperate with local authorities on any evacuation order,” advised the agency.
The NDMA also encouraged the public to immediately report unusual water flows, the movement of glaciers or the roar to local disaster management authorities. The public can download the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert” application for real -time notifications and security advice.
