- Sony plans to increase the prices of its PS5 consoles again due to American prices
- The financial director, Lin Tao, declared in the questions and answers of an investor that the prices will have an impact of 100 billion yen ($ 685 million) on Sony
- It was also said that Sony plans to make “locally” consoles in the United States to avoid increasing prices
Sony said he was planning to increase the prices of his equipment again, including PlayStation 5, in the midst of American rates.
During responses to the company’s investors on May 14, 2025, following the publication of its latest financial results, the Lin Tao financial director shared that the recent increase in prices imposed by the Trump administration has already affected Sony and that the prices will have an impact of 100 billion Yen ($ 685 million) if they remain (via IGN).
Last month, Sony increased the price of digital publishing PS5 in the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, bringing the console from £ 390 / € 450 to € 430 / € 500.
The PS5 and PS5 PRO base did not receive a price increase at the time, but things could change because Sony suggests that it “will spend the price” from additional costs to its equipment.
“In terms of price, we do not simply calculate the simple price to find 100 billion yen, but thinking of the information currently available, and also examining the market trend, we can go to the price, as well as the allowance of shipments,” said Tao. “We therefore take different measures to succeed in reaching 100 billion yen.”
Tao also said that Sony had three months of consoles stored in the United States, saying: “It is not only China, there are other countries in which it is produced and manufactured. As for the inventory, the details change day by day but [there is an] Three -month inventory [for] distribution.”

Sony’s president and chief executive officer Hiroki Totoki also said that the company was planning to make consoles “locally” in the United States to avoid increasing prices.
“These materials can of course be produced locally,” said Totoki. “I think it would be an effective strategy. But the PS5 is manufactured in many areas. Whether it is to make in the United States or not, it must be considered in the future. We are not in such a critical situation.”
There is not yet an official announcement of a price increase, but we will keep you posted. However, it would now be the best time to get their hands on a PS5 or PS5 Pro before the consoles are potentially more expensive once again.
