On Thursday, the United Nations urged India and Pakistan to exercise a “maximum reservoir” following a Pahalgam attack which left 26 dead.

UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said that Secretary General António Guterres had not contacted one or the other government in the past 24 hours, but monitored the situation “very closely and with very great concern”.

“We were very clear in our condemnation of the attack which occurred in Pahalgam on the 22nd, which killed a large number of civilians,” said Dujarric at a press briefing in New York.

He called the two nuclear nations to avoid additional escalation and to resolve the differences peacefully.

“Any problem between Pakistan and India, we think we can be and should be resolved peacefully thanks to a significant mutual commitment,” said Dujarric.

The attack in Jammu-et-Cachemire of an illegal Indian occupation has strongly raised tensions between the neighbors of Southern Asia, who fought several wars on the disputed territory.

In the aftermath of a deadly attack in Pahalgam who killed 26 tourists and injured 17 others, India announced a set of radical measures against Pakistan, including the suspension of the Industrial Water Treaty.

In response, the Pakistan National Security Committee (NSC) has warned that any attempt by India to block water flow in Pakistan would be treated as an act of war.

The press release follows a high -level NSC meeting, which also approved the closure of the Wagah border passage.

Key decisions announced by NSC:

  • The unilateral suspension of India of the Indus water Treaty has rejected.
  • Any embezzlement of Pakistan water to treat as an act of war.
  • The Wagah border has closed to all Indian terrestrial transits with immediate effect.
  • Airspace to all flights belonging to closed Indians or operated.
  • The 1972 simla agreement could be suspended.
  • The installation of Visa Saarc exemption for canceled Indian nationals.
  • The Indian nationals of Pakistan ordered to leave within 48 hours.
  • Indian defense advisers said Persona Non Grata.
  • Indian high-commissioner staff in Islamabad limited to 30 people.
  • All forms of trade with India have suspended, including via third countries.

A press release published by the Prime Minister’s office spoke concerned about the loss of lives and called the subsequent measures of India “unilateral, unjust, politically motivated, extremely irresponsible and devoid of legal merit”.

The press release indicates that India’s response violates international standards, United Nations Security Council resolutions and bilateral agreements.

The Committee also rejected India’s announcement to suspend the Indus Water Treaty (IWT), qualifying it as a binding international agreement without a unilateral suspension.

The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, brought together senior officials, including Darrier Ishaq Dar, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Mohin Naqvi, and the main military commanders attended the session.
