The United Kingdom announces aid of 1.33 million pounds sterling for the relief of the Pakistan monsoon

The United Kingdom announced on Friday 1.33 million pounds sterling humanitarian aid to support Pakistan’s response to the 2025 monsoon season, while heavy rains, floods and landslides continue to have an impact on several regions.

According to the British High Commissioner of Islamabad, aid will cover the emergency and early recovery needs, including food rationing, research and rescue operations, mobile medical camps, rehabilitation of drinking water systems, restoration of irrigation channels, livelihoods and agricultural support.

The United Kingdom’s programs provide vital aid for coordination with national and provincial authorities, said British High Commissioner Jane Marriott.

“Thanks to programs financed by the United Kingdom, vital assistance reached the communities affected by floods and landslides. Working in close collaboration with the national and provincial authorities and partners, the United Kingdom remains determined to strengthen the response to Pakistan disasters and resilience,” she said.

Funding will benefit more than 223,000 people in seven districts affected by the floods of Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

As part of this initiative, 2,400 community volunteers were trained in research and rescue operations in vulnerable districts.

Twenty-five Talesadda volunteers joined the 1122 rescue operations in Buner, helping to save efforts because many people remain missing or trapped under the debris.

Mobile medical camps are created in areas where health establishments have been damaged, guaranteeing continuous access to health care.

Displaced families also receive non -food articles, shelter materials, food rations and dignity kits for women.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Coordinators in Swat and Buner contributes to coordinating help efforts to improve delivery on the ground.

The support of the United Kingdom also extends to disaster preparation initiatives within the framework of its inviginal governance program, implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

In Sindh, the program supported the creation of disaster risk reduction wings at provincial and district levels after being piloted in Thitta, Naushero Feroz and Jamshoro.

The disaster preparation dashboard has also been developed and given to the provincial Sindh Disaster Management Authority.

The system incorporates data at the district level, such as the locations of safe shelters, medical supplies and available equipment, with provincial level information to improve coordination and accelerate emergency interventions.

“These measures highlight the continuous partnership of the United Kingdom with Pakistan in strengthening the mechanisms of response to disasters and the resilience of the construction against emergencies related to the climate,” said the British High Commissioner.
