The Waqar Mehdi of PPP wins the partial elections of the Sindh Senate with 111 votes

The candidate of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Waqar Mehdi, won the victory on Tuesday in the Senate by the Sindh’s general siege, after the death of Senator Taj Haider.

According to a spokesperson for the Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP), Mehdi obtained 111 votes, beating the candidate of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Nighat Mirza, who collected 36. Two votes were rejected due to incorrect marking.

The survey was held in the Sindh assembly from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. without interruption. Ejaz Anwar Chauhan, commissioner in the provincial elections and return responsible, confirmed that 149 legislators voted during the process.

The Senate siege had fallen vacant after the death of the PPP Taj Haider veteran. Mehdi will now serve the upper room of the Parliament until March 2027.
