- The Windows 11 bug with the Intel audio driver has just been corrected
- This problem has existed for a long time – A year, actually
- He prevented the PCs with the Intel processors of the 11th generation of obtaining the update 24h2
It took centuries to correct another Windows 11 bug, which prevented a large number of people using certain Intel processors from going to the latest version of the operating system – but this time, it was not Microsoft’s fault.
The Windows 11 24H2 problem surfaced almost exactly a year ago, hitting PCs with specific versions of the Intel Smart Sound Technology pilot (SST), which is an audio controller. (This bug has actually been seen in a distant past – and I will come back to it).
As Neowin reports, the problem only affects Windows 11 PC with 11th generation Intel processors. Those who have a computer built around a rocket chip (or Lake Tiger) found themselves unable to go to the 24H2 version, because Microsoft blocked these PCs with what is known as “compatibility maintenance”.
This problem was first reported by Microsoft in the dashboard of the state of health of the release of Windows on September 30, 2024, and the bug caused a plan of the devices with a blue death screen (now a black screen).
In this case, Microsoft was based on Intel fixing this driver to be compatible with Windows 11 24H2, and this took some time – but the problem was finally marked as resolved to September 26, 2025.
Those who have an Intel Rocket Lake processor who have so far been unable to obtain the 24 -hour update must ensure that they download and install the Intel SST driver which is version 10.30.00.5714 (or 10.29.00.5714, depending on their exact Windows version) or subsequent. Anyway, you want the Intel SST driver to end in 5714.
Microsoft explains that you must have this Intel driver offered in Windows Update, so check and install it. Once this is done, you can again check the updates, and you must finally offer Windows 11 version 24H2. (It can still take some time for Windows Update to change in your system).
If, even after waiting for a while, we do not offer the Intel SST driver via Windows Update, then Microsoft explains that “it is possible that the drivers of this audio controller have not been developed for your material configuration of specific device”.
If this is the case, you must contact the manufacturer of your PC to find out more at the time when the necessary pilot will be implemented for your device.
Analysis: already with 10:2 p.m.
This bug presents itself on another pair of recently fixed problems which prevented upgrades to Windows 11 24H2, which also took the best part of a year to be resolved. Having stumbling up like these drags for so long – and these problems are only resolved before the next annual update for Windows 11, 25:2, is clearly not an excellent look for Microsoft.
Although as indicated, Microsoft was waiting for Intel that healing was formulated, the software giant therefore gets a pass this time.
It should also be noted that this SST complication with 11th generation Intel processors was previously seen, in 2022, where the problem prevented improvements to Windows 11 22:2:2 AM (and 9:2 p.m., the original embodiment of the operating system), blocking the path for those who seek to migrate from Windows 10 at the time. So, it was quite strange to review this pop -up last year – I hope it will no longer be a problem with the 25:2 update.
If you are wondering how many people could still perform 11th generation processors, Intel’s Rocket Lake chips are probably the engine of something like 10% of Windows PCs – perhaps more like 15% – if we go through the difficult estimates generated by the AI (Copilot, Chatgpt and Gemini almost agree on this). Although we need to season this strongly because these are only educated assumptions, there are clearly a number of people who still use a PC with an intel -generation intel engine that has suffered from this bug.
