Alex Palou is at the top of the world of open wheel racing when he won Indianapolis 500 on Sunday for the first time in his career and won his fifth victory in six Indycar races this season.
Palou seemed to be cemented in his Indycar seat in the predictable future because he clearly indicated that joining Formula 1 was not in the cards.

“(F1) doesn’t call me anymore. I’m still. It’s a huge series. It’s incredible. I’m a big fan, but I don’t think they have fun as I have it here,” said Palou at the Indy Star.
“I do not see people celebrating with their women and children as much as we do. I do not see them hanging on the bus or dinner with their mechanics. I only like to drive and have fun and be with my people, so I think that (F1) is the total opposite.”
Palou plunged his toes into F1 waters in 2022 when he signed with the McLaren Test of Cars program. He was then appointed reserve pilot for the 2023 season but never ran during an official event.

He participated in four races in Formula 2 in 2017 and led full time in Formula 3 in 2018, finishing in seventh in the pilot championship.
Palou joined Indycar in 2020 with Dale Coyne Racing. He moved to Chip Ganassi Racing in 2021. He won the Indycar championship three times and was online for a fourth.
After the victory of Indy 500, Ganassi called him the “best driver”.

“I think he’s one of the big ones. It’s so simple,” said Ganassi. “Admittedly, we had large pilots in our team, and he is there, at worst, shoulder shoulder with all the others.”
