CD Projekt Red shared a whole new look at The Witcher 4 With an impressive technological demo.
During the State of Unreal 2025 event today, we were entitled to a technical demo which offered an early overview of the Unreal Engine 5.6 features which will be The Witcher 4.
At the start of live delivery, we saw a short cutscene from a group of men attacked by a monster, before the images transparent transparent in the gameplay. We then see Ciri, the holder of the game and playable protagonist, emerging from a cave on a cliff after investigating the attack and shown the region ever seen from Kovir.
According to CD Projekt Red, the displayed gameplay works on the PS5 to 60 IPS base, with the line of the activated rays, and it looks incredible.
Like Geralt de Rivia, Ciri also has his own horse companion called Kelpie, and both can be seen rolling through the mountains and dense forests of Kovir in the port city of Valdrest.
To watch
The city is animated by crowds of NPCs, some of which will react to certain cases created by the player, thanks to the metahuman technology of Unreal Engine with a scale of the crowd of mass AI.
For example, when Ciri strikes a man wearing apples, she launches a chain reaction. She apologizes, then a child can be seen forward to steal apples that fell on the ground, followed by a pig seeking to eat them.
We also see other NPCs interact with each other and create their reactive scenes, which makes the whole city feel alive. It also seems that the gameplay will return transparently in cinematographic when Ciri reaches its destination and begins a conversation, suggesting that there will be no black loading screens between these moments.
Tools such as the new Unreal animation framework and the rendering of nanite foliage are used in The Witcher 4 To help deliver an immersive world to 60 IPS without compromising quality, according to the developer.
“We started our partnership with Epic Games to advance open world game technology,” said CDPR co-PDG MichaĆ Nowakowski. “To show this early look at the work we have done using a UNREAL engine operating at 60 IPS on PlayStation 5, is an important step – and a testimony of the great cooperation between our teams.
“But we are far from over. I can’t wait to see more advances and a technology inspiring this partnership while the development of The Witcher 4 on Unreal Engine 5 continues.”
The studio has also confirmed that while the technical demo operated on a PlayStation console, “features and technology will be supported on all the platforms on which the game will launch”, including Xbox and PC.
