- The TCA report claims that ESIM shipments show a 35% increase in annual shift
- ESIM profile downloads increased by 56%
- Despite ESIM growth, traditional SIM cards remain stable at 3.7 billion units
New figures said that ESIM shipments have reached 503 million units in 2024, marking a 35% increase in annual sliding.
The TCA report claims that the growing availability of ESMS for international travel has led the adoption of consumers, which resulted in a 56% increase in ESIM profile downloads.
Régisally, North America has seen the largest adoption of ESIMS consumers due to operators pursuing “digital-prime” strategies and ESIM devices only available on the market. Meanwhile, Esims for Asia has experienced a double absorption of profile downloads while Europe has also experienced increased demand.
ESIM market growth
The data also suggests an improved economic landscape in 2024, a stimulated demand for smartphones and mobile subscriptions, which has a positive impact on ESIM growth.
“Our latest data offers the clearest demonstration to this day of the measure to which ESIM technology is now exploited in the global digital economy, offering flexible connectivity, advanced security and improved experiences,” said Bertrand Moussel, Chairman of the Board of Directors of TCA.
The recommended SIM / ESIM 5G market also increased by 68%, with leading deployments in North America and Europe. Although there was an ESIM adoption absorption in North America and Europe, the traditional SIM cards market remains stable.
“While the ESIM ecosystem continues to develop to encompass a range of emerging use cases, the same is true for the importance of industry collaboration to ensure that all deployments are supported by a solid base of confidence, consistency and reliability,” added Moussel.
