The New York Yankees held a moment of silence before Wednesday evening’s match against the Detroit Tigers to honor the conservative influencer Charlie Kirk. Kirk died after being killed during a speaking event in Utah earlier during the day.

The team posted a photo of Kirk on his jumbotron before the game with the message “Remember Charlie Kirk”.

The incident caused emotional responses many eminent personalities in the world of sport, including former Yankee Mark Teixeira and the Giants of New York Jaxson Dart Giants.

Kirk died after being taken to the hospital in critical condition after being killed on Wednesday during a UTAH event, a law enforcement official at the Associated Press said.

The published video of the event seemed to show that Kirk is shot when he spoke to the crowd in a white pop-up tent. After the shot, the crowd dispersed, with spectators shouting: “Run, run, run!”

The FBI said that “the subject” of the shooting is in detention.
