Thiel College Toby Atwood tennis player died at 21 after collapsing from halfway

Toby Atwood, an increase in Thiel College and a member of the woman tennis The team suddenly died during the weekend after collapsing during a half-marathon in Pennsylvania, the school officials confirmed.

The 21 -year -old Pennsylvania Native participated in the almost Isle Half Marathon in Erie on Sunday when she collapsed and died. The cause of Atwood’s death was not immediately known.

“Toby was entering his last year at Thiel College and was a student, athlete and chief accomplished throughout her stay in college. Her presence touched the lives of so many people, and we will miss it deeply,” said the vice-president of student life and athletics, Michael McKinney, in a letter sent to the community.

“During this heartbreaking period, we mourn Toby and expressing our sincere sympathy to his family, friends, classmates, teammates, coaches, instructors and all who knew her.”

Atwood was described as a “out -of -competition” student, who maintained a 4.0 GPA as a commercial and double major double in accounting. Frequenting Thiel College for a full scholarship, Atwood was president of Zeta Tau Alpha and was recently inducted in Chi Eta Sigma, the National Commerce Honorary Society.

“Toby was a light in everyone’s life. There has never been a boring moment with her and she was still there for the people she loved when they needed it,” women said in a statement.

“Toby really left her brand while she was with us. She was considered a leader, a model and a mentor. She was strong, resilient and is never afraid to say her head. There will forever be a hole in our hearts and our chapter without her. She touched the lives of so many people.”

Atwood was co-captain of the Women’s Tennis team. In the first year, she won four single games and two double games.

She was recently honored by the Tennis Intercollegiale Association For his academic success – marking his second honor of this type in the past two seasons.
