The new data from analysts of the Canalys industry revealed that PC suppliers store inventory in anticipation of higher prices from the Trump administration, but they do not sell enough to erase their stock.
A significant increase of 15% of PC shipments was observed in the United States in the first three months of 2025, but this has also been aligned with an excess of inventory, consumers are much less likely to renew their devices this year compared to companies.
The market prospects align with the suspicions of higher prices, with American PC expeditions which should only increase by 2% in 2025 despite strong growth in the first quarter.
American sellers are preparing for higher prices
According to data, inflation from wider rates and general economic uncertainty is to see consumers keep their devices longer than usual.
Canalys expects consumption PS shipments to decrease 4% this year, compared to the 8% increase in PC shipments to companies, widely motivated by the end of October for Windows 10.
Research director Ishan Dutt explained: “Although PCs are currently exempt, wider rates with an impact on key expenditure categories have already resulted in inflationary pressure.”
In addition, the media threshing around PC AI seems to have tamed. High prices, a lack of clear value and confusing messaging prevent many buyers from jumping on the train because the PC the IA remain in their first generation.
The Director of Canaly Research, Kieren Jessop, explained that poor battery life, slow performance or material failures tend to push consumers to updates, which indicates that the Windows 10 deadline may not be a motivation for consumers only for companies.
A March 2025 survey suggested that 14% of customers are now experiencing the depreciation of Windows 10, and an additional 21% do not plan to upgrade accordingly.
In the meantime, American storage continues to distort PC shipping figures worldwide, with global PC shipments T1 2025 up 9%. DUTT summed up: “This preventive strategy has enabled manufacturers and the channel to source forward potential cost increases, increasing sales shipments despite the request of the end -up user otherwise stable.”
