- Ministerum MS-S1 Max introduces the compatibility of racks in the compact mini PC category
- The bandwidth of 256 GB / s memory takes care of the management of extremely large workloads on locally
- Dual 10 Gigabit LAN Ports provide a rare networking speed in compact systems
Minisforum has unveiled the MS-S1 Max, a new system that joins the growing list of products built around the Strix Halo platform in AMD.
This device is a high-end option for professionals, supporting the Ryzen AI Max + 395 processor as well as up to 128 GB of LPDDR5X-8000 memory.
The memory works in quad-channel mode with a bandwidth noted at 256 GB / s, a sufficient figure for intensive workloads such as the execution of large language models with more than 100 billion parameters locally.
A mini PC designed for office and rack
According to the company, the MS-S1 Max “evolves from the office to the Rack 2U”.
This phrasing leaves a certain ambiguity, because it is not clear if different cases options will be offered, or if the desktop box has been dimensioned to slide directly into a rack without alteration.
Be that as it may, the form factor is atypical for a mini PC, blurring the lines between compact office use and adaptability of the data center.
The MS-S1 MAX incorporates a PCIe X16 location inside the chassis, opening the door to discreet graphics cards or another extension material.
This is a clear difference compared to many compact systems that lack internal upgrade paths.
The rear E / S include a USB4V2 type-C port with a flow rate of 80 Gbit / s and a 15W USB-PD-PD output, two additional USB4-type ports at 40 Gbit / s, four USB-A not specified, Dual 10 Gigabit LAN and an HDMI output.
At the front, two other USB-C ports, a USB-A port, a headphone jack and two microphones are present.
Wireless connectivity extends to WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, reflecting current generation standards.
Instead of counting on an external brick, this commercial PC incorporates an internal diet of 320W.
This choice simplifies the assembly of racks and reduces congestion when used as an office.
There is no information on its cooling system, but taking into account its size, it should adapt to one for sustained workloads.
For workstation tasks involving the inference of the AI model, video rendering or multitasking, such a configuration can be advantageous if the thermal design is sufficient.
The company has not provided price or availability for the MS-S1 max. Without these details, it remains difficult to judge how this mini PC will be compared to rival offers.
