Irobot has just put back to the rebuilding and replaced almost all of its range of robot vacuum cleaners, but among the new bright fleet, there is a model that attracted my particular attention: the Roomba 205 Dustcomompactor combo. This bot is specially designed for small houses, and as the owner of such a compact home, I am particularly impatient to get my hands.
The fact that I live on a single floor means that robot vacuum cleaners are, in some ways, an excellent adjustment for my house. Apartment life often results in “not much space”, and this is certainly the case for me. Many of the best vacuum vacuum vacuum cleaners are delivered with gigantic quays that can do everything, from dusting of dust to filling water tanks to washing and drying of mop pads. Although they certainly have a very practical experience, I lose half my kitchen every time I test one.
The other option is only a load dock. These tend to be nice and small, but demand that I take care of any maintenance – including the emptying of the trash cans. The bins that you will find vacuum cleaners on board are necessarily small, so if you have a lot of dust, you will do it with irritating regularity. If the test of one of them coincides with me with a canine visitor, the emptying of the bins becomes a chore; It is certainly not an ideal option if you are looking for the best vacuum of the robot for animal hair.
The Irobot solution is to introduce the compaction of the dust into the integrated baccalaureate of the 205 combo, which can contain more dust and therefore requires less frequent manual intervention. The platform is the basic one only in charge only small to adapt discreetly in almost all houses, including mine.
Inside the small tray on board is a paddle that twists on the left and on the right to crush the dust and the debris that have been sucked in a smaller space. The paddle then returns to the center of the main entrance, ready for the next influx of dirt.
The 205 combo is designed to last up to 60 days without emptying, although it will depend on the quantity of dirt and dust that you suck, of course.

Irobot says that its compact technology is a “first industry”. Another model on the market – the Narwal Freo X Plus – does a similar thing, although I assume that it might not use the same mechanism.
To fall over
Another notable feature here is that Irobot has removed the navigation washer from the top of the Roomba 205 Dustcomompactor combo, which makes it not very deep to sneak under furniture that would have been prohibited otherwise. Perhaps Irobot decided that people with small houses should also have weak furniture; I don’t know.
This is particularly interesting because this Robovac uses Lidar for navigation. In fact, the introduction of Lidar “Clearview” navigation is one of the best updates to be included in the new Roomba range.
Previously, the brand used an old form of vacuum navigation of the robot, which was much slower, less reliable and unable to operate in darkness.

Irobot says that Lidar technology has simply been moved forward to the 205 Dustcomompactor model to give it a more rationalized silhouette. The fact is that the robots that use the Lidar need this ranged washer to be able to “see” a beautiful large region around them. The other three new rocks have one.
I questioned an Irobot representative on this subject, who explained that although the 205 would have a narrower field of vision, that would not have an impact on the precision of navigation for most people. She reassured me that she was testing two of the new Roomba robots, one with the washer and one without, and they both behaved in the same way.
If this is true, it could be the empty of the robot perfect for me. We have a Romberba 205 Dustcomompactor on its way and we postpone as soon as we have had the chance to test it.
The Roomba 205 Dustcomompactor should be sold from March 18, with a list price of $ 469 / € 449 (around £ 380 / $ 780 in).
