- The Turkish telecommunications regulator, the BTK, blocked access to websites and applications of the main ESIM suppliers
- Holalfy advises users to install and activate Esims before traveling
- Failure to activate ESIM before could leave thousands without internet access
The BTK, the Turkish telecommunications regulator, prohibited access to websites and applications of the main ESIM suppliers.
While the summer holidays are starting, around 13 million British fly away on vacation over the next two months, Turkey one of the best tourist destinations.
The ban includes the best ESIM suppliers for international trips, including Holafly, Airalo, Ubigi and Saily.
How can travelers still access the Internet in Türkiye?
With these recent changes, British travelers are strongly advised to install and activate their ESIM before taking off, which means that users should ensure that ESIM is fully downloaded and activated on their device before departure.
“To avoid being caught, British travelers should make sure their ESIM is completely downloaded and activated before leaving the United Kingdom.
Most ESIM suppliers for Turkey allow you to install and activate your plan in advance, and the process is generally fast and simple.
However, not doing so could leave users without internet access on arrival. In this case, users will have to count on public Wi-Fi or try to find a physical SIM card, not ideal when free Wi-Fi is not always available, and many people naturally be wary of safety risks that accompany the use of public networks.
“Otherwise, you could be left without internet access when you land, which can be a serious problem if you are counting on your phone for cards, transport or reservations,” added Gomez.
