Beijing: At least three people died, 14 other people remained missing and 60 were hospitalized after two boats carrying tourists capsized on Sunday in southwest China, Chinese media.
Travelers’ boats have overturned “on a river in a tourist attraction” in the city of Qianxi, Guizhou province, Xinhua said the news agency.
The report did not immediately offer details on the type of attraction or the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The rescuers were looking for 14 people who were missing.
Chinese President Xi Jinping urged “total efforts” in research and rescue operations and the treatment of the injured, Xinhua said.
XI “also stressed the importance of strengthening safety measures in tourist attractions” and other “major public sites”, said the agency.
Deputy Prime Minister Zhang Guoqing was sent to the scene to supervise rescue efforts.
Sunday’s incident comes just over two months after 11 people were killed in a boats collision in central China.
The accident in the Hunan province occurred when a passenger boat hit an industrial ship, throwing 19 people over board.
