Thunderstorms, rain and snow expected in Pakistan next week: PMD issues a warning

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has planned thunderstorms, heavy rains and strong winds in various parts of the country next week, from March 9 to 16.

According to a press release published on Saturday by the department, a Western wind system should enter the northern areas of the country from the evening of March 9. The intensity of this meteorological system will increase compared to March 12 and could persist until March 16.

From March 9 to 16, the rain and snowfall are expected in the northern regions, notably Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Murrier, Galyat, Gilgit-Baltistan and Cashmire.

On March 10, moderate to strong precipitation, accompanied by thunderstorms, were planned for Islamabad, Rawalpindi Division, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Siackot and Faisalabad. The rain should also continue in these cities from March 12 to 16.

On March 14 and 15, precipitation is expected in Quetta, Ziarat, Shaman, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Okara, Bhakkar and Multan.

The meteorological department has also warned that rain and snowfall in northern areas, including Mrier and Galyat, could disrupt traffic. In addition, there is a risk of landslides and avalanches in areas such as cashmere, gilgit-baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Travelers in these regions were invited to take the necessary precautions.

Halm storms are also expected in the upper Punjab, the high Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad.
