Tiger Woods was arrested in Florida with prescription opioids found in his pocket after the 15-time major winner was involved in an accident Friday, court records show.

The five-time Masters winner was arrested for driving under the influence with property damage and refusal to submit to a blood alcohol test (BAL) after law enforcement said his vehicle collided with another vehicle Friday afternoon while he was driving impaired.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by PK Press Club Digital, deputies with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office reported observing several signs of impairment at the scene, noting that the golf legend was “sweating profusely” and his movements appeared “lethargic and slow.”

During the investigation, Woods told police he had been distracted before the accident.

“Woods stated that he was looking at his cell phone and changing the radio station and did not notice the vehicle in front of him slowing down,” deputies noted in the affidavit.

Law enforcement conducted field sobriety tests based on their suspicions. Woods was instructed to remove his glasses, and the deputy conducting the tests said his eyes appeared “bloodshot and glassy” and “extremely dilated.”

Woods was placed under arrest and during a search, law enforcement found “two white pills in Woods’ left pants pocket.” According to the arrest affidavit, the pills were later identified as hydrocodone, a prescription opioid for pain relief.

Woods previously told law enforcement before field sobriety tests that he had seven back surgeries and “over 20 leg surgeries.” He told law enforcement that “I take a few” prescription medications.

At the jail, Woods submitted to a breathalyzer test, where he provided results of 0.00 on both samples. He refused to submit to a urine test, which resulted in another charge.

Friday’s arrest marked Woods’ second arrest for drunken driving in the past decade. In 2017, he was taken into custody, also on Jupiter Island, after taking prescription drugs and falling asleep behind the wheel of a moving car at 3 a.m.

In 2021, he had an accident that left him with serious leg injuries that kept him from playing golf for the entire year.
