- The Federal Trade Commission has extended the deadline to claim a Fortnite refund
- You now have until July 9, 2025
- Eligible players can report via the FTC website
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) American has extended the deadline to claim a refund on unwanted Fortnite purchases.
Previously, consumers had until February 14 to file a complaint which was now extended until July 9. The regulatory organization has confirmed that a total of $ 126 million has already been sent to those who have made a valid complaint on the first date.
If you have already submitted a complaint, no other action is necessary. If you have not done so, you can submit an online complaint via the FTC website.
The FTC indicates that you can request a refund if you meet one of the following criteria:
- You were billed in the currency in the game for the articles you did not want between January 2017 and September 2022
- Your child paid your credit card to your knowledge between January 2017 and November 2018
- Your account was locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after you complained to your Credit Card Company Unjustified Fees
It should be kept in mind that you must be at least 18 years old to fill out the complaint form. A parent or tutor can also fill out the complaint form on behalf of those who are less than this age.
The complaint process is only open in the United States. The filing of a complaint will not affect your articles in play or Fortnite account.
The FTC also warned of potential reimbursement scams, reiterating the fact that it will never invoice to file a complaint. “Do not pay anyone who promises you a refund of the FTC in exchange for costs,” he advises.
What did Epic games hurt?
These reimbursements are part of a regulation announced in December 2022, which involved an agreement of Fortnite Developer Epic Games to pay millions of reimbursements to players.
The company would have violated the law on the protection of online privacy for children (COPPA) using dark models and visual design tips to coax players to make involuntary purchases.
“EPIC used the invasive default parameters of confidentiality and the deceived interfaces that deceived Fortnite users, including adolescents and children,” said FTC president Lina Mr. Khan, at the time.
“Public protection, and in particular children, invasions of online confidentiality and dark models is an absolute priority for the Commission, and these application measures clearly show to companies that the FTC represses these illegal practices.”
In addition to announce the reimbursements. Epic Games paid a fine of $ 275 million for breaking the rules, the largest penalty for violation of an FTC rule.
