Tony Romo’s career in broadcasting has been more of a roller coaster ride.

At first, Romo seemed to have a crystal ball in the booth alongside Jim Nantz, announcing plays before the audience saw them.

However, things seemed to hit a wall and it was reported that CBS was concerned that Romo had lost his flair and that his relationship with Nantz had taken a hit.

Romo has since called up three full seasons of football, and his current contract expires after the 2030 season.

Depending on who you ask, Romo is just as polarizing now as he was when he was quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, and during an appearance on Pat McAfee’s show, he responded to the criticism.

“You do what you do, and you have to be yourself and everything. You do your best, and it’s not like you never try your best to be good at something. But then you look at it, and it’s like noise is noise. That’s part of this job,” he said. “For me, it’s up, it’s down. But at the end of the day, you don’t really listen to things.”

Romo rather likes to listen to positive comments.

“All the fans come up to me and tell me they love us and everything, that’s how I feel. As far as watching things online, that’s just part of the process. But I don’t think it really changes things,” he continued.

“If everyone likes me, they watch me, so there must be something. But we also comment on their teams winning and losing. “I don’t like someone when they don’t fully support my team.” So there’s a balance to try. I support both teams. I support the guys who love the sport, who care deeply about it and want to win. I want them to care as much as I do. And those are the guys you support a little bit, and sometimes it manifests itself in a certain way, but I love it. It’s great work.”

Romo was recently criticized for his comments about color during the playoff game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills earlier this month.

Romo’s bizarre noises and analysis of the playoff game drew criticism from NFL fans on social media. Horrible announcement noted a few times where Romo may have fallen short, including a set piece in which he suggested the Jaguars were the underdogs in their home playoff game against the Bills.

The strange noises of Romo and a “DTF” Remark Sparked Complaints fans earlier in the 2025 NFL season.

Romo and Nantz are scheduled to appear in Super Bowl LXII in Atlanta in two years, CBS’ first Super Bowl since the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in overtime in Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas.
