- Cybernews has found a major database belonging to Sydney Tools left online
- He exposed the data of employees and customers
- Up to 34 million orders could be exposed
Millions of Australians (and perhaps others) may have exposed their sensitive information on the Internet due to a leak from a large retailer.
Researchers from Cyberness Discovered a huge clickhouse database exposed belonging to Sydney Tools, an Australian retailer specializing in electrical tools, hand tools and industrial equipment for business people and DIY lovers.
The database would contain entries belonging to employees of Sydney Tools (current and old) and customers.
Millions of customers
For employees, there are more than 5,000 admissions containing complete names, employment branches, wages and sales objectives. Since Sydney Tools apparently has around 1,000 employees, it is sure to assume that the majority of entries in this category are incumbent up on the former employees.
Although payment or bank information was not exposed here, there are still many ingredients for dangerous phishing or an identity flight cocktail.
Aside from employees, the database disclosed also overthrew more than 34 million online purchase files.
These contained the names of the people, the email addresses, the personal addresses, the telephone numbers and the items ordered, which objectively aggravates this part of the leak.
“The disclosed data is sensitive because it included personal information identifiable in large volumes, as well as sensitive information concerning customers who bought expensive items and the salaries of their employees,” said the researchers.
THE Cyberness The report was published at the end of March 2025 and said that at the time of the press, the archives were still exposed on the Internet and data leakage. The researchers said they had tried to contact Sydney’s tools to make them close the archives, but failed.
Unprotected databases remain one of the largest causes of data leaks today.
Sydney Tools offers a wide range of products from major brands, including tools for construction, automotive and wood work applications. The company operates both online and via physical stores across Australia.
