In the video, a fruit seller is seen standing next to his rickshaw loaded with bananas when a uniformed traffic policeman approaches, picks up a bunch of bananas and places it in a nearby government vehicle. Another guard is also seen holding bananas, after which the two officials load the fruits into the official car and leave the premises without making any payment to the seller.
The incident was recorded by a passerby and posted online on social media, which quickly attracted the attention of the public and authorities. Taking immediate note, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam ordered the suspension of senior traffic manager and in-charge Adil, as well as director and driver Tasadduq.
Indictments were issued and a departmental investigation was opened against the accused. According to initial findings, the incident occurred in November during an anti-encroachment campaign. The seller was allegedly asked to remove his rickshaw and was then given a challan.
