Police have launched an investigation after transgender activist Bindiya Rana narrowly escaped an attack at her Karachi home in the early hours of Monday, underscoring growing concerns over community safety in the metropolis.
The first information report (FIR) into the incident was lodged during his complaint at the Baloch Colony police station under sections 34 (common intention) and 324 (attempt to murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
According to the FIR, the incident took place around 2 am when two unidentified armed suspects rang the doorbell of the militant’s residence and started shooting as soon as it opened.
He said Rana and fellow transright Zehrish Soomro, a municipal councilor in the City Municipal Committee-Safoora-PPP, were at home at the time.
Soomro said The Express PK Press Club that the attackers attempted to force their way into the house, prompting Rana to try to protect herself. She said Rana allegedly fell during the attack as the attackers fled the scene.

Soomro called the incident part of a worrying trend of attacks on transgender people in Karachi. Rana called on authorities to ensure security in the region, especially for the transgender community.
Recall that in recent years, the transgender community has reported incidents of threats, harassment and violent attacks, including targeted killings.
In September 2025, the bullet-riddled bodies of three transgender people were found abandoned in Karachi’s Memon Goth area near the highway, causing widespread shock and condemnation.
