Travis Kelce’s Brother Opens Up About Chiefs Star’s Possible Retirement

Travis Kelce had a long, somber return to the locker room on Sunday as the Kansas City Chiefs were eliminated from the playoffs and lost Patrick Mahomes for the season.

Kelce has had a solid season with the Chiefs, although he is on pace to have his lowest reception numbers since 2015. Currently, the 10-time Pro Bowler has 67 catches for 797 yards and five touchdowns. While the numbers were solid for a 36-year-old superstar NFL player, it didn’t translate into wins for Kansas City.

As the season draws to a close, retirement speculation will intensify. Jason Kelce, Travis’ brother, was interviewed during ESPN’s coverage of Monday night’s game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Miami Dolphins.

“Oh, I’m curious too,” the former Philadelphia Eagles center said. “In my opinion, to make that decision, you have to step away from the game a little bit. Play these last three games. Enjoy it with your teammates, enjoy it with your coaches. The team is going to be different whether you come back or not this year. So enjoy these last three games. And then let it sink in.

“It will come with time. There’s so much emotion with this game, just after a season. Especially with the way it’s gone. There’s been so many ups and downs. I mean, they’re 1-7 in one-score games. They’ve been close. And right now, it’s just too fresh. You have to get away from that. You have to think about it. And then, yeah, it will come to you.”

The Chiefs tight end shed some light last month on when he thinks he’ll make a decision on the rest of his career.

“I want to give the Chiefs a good opportunity whether I come back or not or whether they want me to come back or not,” Kelce said via ESPN. “I would like to make this decision before they have to secure draft picks and open free agency to fill out the roster appropriately.

“All this will be done at the end of the season. I won’t think about it until then.”
