The Los Angeles and San Diego Padres dodgers wrote the last chapter of their rivalry when the canoes emerged after Fernando Tatis Jr. was hit by land last week.
Padres manager Mike Shildt has burst out of the canoe and began to shout towards the dodgers canoe, encouraging the Dodgers manager, Dave Roberts, to face Shildt. The two managers were on face for a moment before being separated.
The temple of baseball fame, Trevor Hoffman, participated in rivalry as a member of the Padres for nearly 16 seasons. Hoffman works as main advisor to baseball operations with the Padres.

Hoffman, 57, spoke to PK Press Club Digital about the way the rivalry between the Dodgers and the Padres has a “old school feeling”.
“(The clearing of the benches is) an extension of the way this rivalry has become. It is really a stick to measure where your team is passionate. It’s passionate, guys care to win games on both sides and sometimes these things happen,” Hoffman told PK Press Club Digital.

“It’s a bit of a feeling of the old school, and I know there are rules in place to try to reduce certain things like this. But when you play high level baseball, and you try to win ball games, these things will happen and, honestly, I think it’s good for the game.”
The Dodgers and the Padres clashed in the playoffs in three of the last five dishes. The Dodgers swept the 3-0 padres in the 2020 NLDS on the way to a World Series title.

In the 2022 NLDs, the Padres shot down the Dodgers in four games to qualify for the NLC. In the 2024 NLDS, the Padres held a 2-1 series lead and pushed the dodgers at the edge, but the dodgers rallied to move on and win another world series.
The two teams played seven regular season games this season, and the Dodgers won five. During these seven games, Tatis had been hit by a field three times.

Twice after Tatis was drilled, the Padres launchers hit the Dodgers Shohei Ohtani with a terrain in alleged retaliation.
“It was a few times too much (Tatis had been hit), and when it was your star player, at one point, you protect,” said Hoffman.
“And there are other aspects of the game when you have the impression that someone steals signs in a place or that someone enters a base that you are going to control the game. But there are rules in place that try to prevent this kind of thing from happening.”

Hoffman said the bench compensation incident between the two clubs can galvanize a team.
“You don’t want a guy to your own uniform has the impression of taking advantage of it, and you certainly have the impression of being attacked, and I’m sure the two parties have done it,” said Hoffman.
“You use it as fuel to galvanize your side. I hope this energy remains with the two ball clubs and they continue to play baseball.”
Hoffman said it was successful, a launcher has to get inside, but you need to know how to do it.

“You have to intervene to succeed in this game. It’s just that you have to learn to intervene. You cannot let certain things move away from you, especially above the shoulders,” said Hoffman.
The Dodgers are 48-31 and lead the NL West by 3½ games on the San Francisco giants in second place. The paadres are 42-26 and are 5½ games behind the Dodgers.
The next time the two rivals of NL West will compete, it is August 15 to 17 in Los Angeles and August 22 to 24 in San Diego.
