On Friday, the United States Ministry of Education launched an investigation into the New York Department of Education (NYDOE) on the mascot of a Lycée in Long Island.
The Nydoe prohibited the logos and Mascottes of Amerindian inspiration for the secondary sports teams, which made the school district of Massapequa in Long Island a target due to its continuous use of the name of the chef’s mascot.
A mandate of 2022 by the nydoe requires that all public schools take on that the Amerindian mascots or may lose state financing. Four school districts of Long Island, of which Massapequa, put legal action contesting the order, but a federal judge rejected the case.

“The American American’s association Guardian’s is firm in the assertion that the preservation of native themes and images in New York public schools is not only a question of cultural dignity, but a fundamental civil law for all students. We call on federal and state leaders to help us defend these expressions down our presence and our contributions,” said Frank Blackcloud, Naga.
“Maintaining a respectable presence in New York public schools is vital for educational equity, historical truth and civil rights of all American Indians.”
The president of the Massapequa Board of Education is quoted in the announcement thanking the administration of Trump to get involved.
“We thank the Ministry of Education and the Trump administration for their position with Massapequa in our efforts to preserve the names of the chiefs and honor the proud history of our community.
