First on Fox: The American Department of Education announced Tuesday that the University of Pennsylvania had accepted a resolution with the administration of President Donald Trump to keep male athletes outside of female sports in a press release provided to PK Press Club Digital.

The ministry previously launched an investigation into UPENN on February 6 for title IX violations which occurred in the swimming program. The Trans athlete, Lia Thomas, competed for the women’s team during the 2021-22 season, after having previously competed in the male team.

“Today, the American Department of Education (the Department) announced that the University of Pennsylvania (UPENN) had concluded a resolution agreement to comply with title IX modifications to the education of 1972 (Title IX),” said the press release.

According to the announcement of the DOE, within the framework of the new UPENN agreement, the following measures will be taken:

  • Upenn will give female athletes all individual records in division I, similar titles or recognitions that have been diverted by male athletes authorized to participate in female categories;
  • Upenn will publish a public declaration to the university community declaring that it will comply with title IX, specifying that UPENN will not allow men to participate in female sports programs or to occupy the intimate female facilities of Penn Athletics;
  • The declaration will specify that Upenn will adopt definitions based on the biology of the words “male” and “woman” in accordance with title IX and in accordance with the executive orders of President Trump “defending the women of the extremism of the ideology between the sexes” and “keeping men outside the sports of women”;
  • Upenn will publish the declaration in a prominent place on its main website and on each of its websites for female athletics;
  • Upenn will cancel all the directives that have violated title IX, delete or revise any declaration or internal document and accessible to the public which are incompatible with title IX, and will inform all the staff and female athletics of all these cancellations; And
  • Upenn will send a personalized letter of apology to each affected swimmer.

The American secretary for education, Linda McMahon, credited Trump for the resolution.

“Thanks to President Trump’s management, Upenn agreed to apologize for his past violations of the title IX and to ensure that female sports are protected at university for future generations of female athletes,” McMahon said in a statement.

“Today is a great victory for women and girls not only at the University of Pennsylvania, but throughout our country. The department congratulates Upenn to have rectified its previous damages against women and girls, and we will continue to fight tirelessly to restore the request of title IX and apply it to the best extent of the law.”

Upenn’s former female swimmer, Paula Scanlan, who was the first of Thomas teammates within the women’s team to denounce the school for allowing the situation to play, told PK Press Club Digital that she was “grateful”.

“I am deeply grateful to the Trump administration for protecting women and girls and the restoration of our legitimate distinctions,” said Scanlan.

“It is because of their solid leadership that my Alma Mater knows now that it has no other choice than to start the process of reforming its policies to maintain women’s rights. Today, marks an important step towards repairing the previous ill -treatment of female athletes and forging a future where sex discrimination no longer limits the potential of girls.”

Scanlan is not the only of Thomas’ former teammates to express themselves.

Three other former Upenn swimmers filed a complaint against the university on February 5, the same day, Trump signed the executive decree “keeping men out of women’s sport”.

The trial sought to withdraw and redistributed the distinctions of Thomas to female swimmers who competed with the athlete, and this alleges that the university administrators suggested that any swimmer opposed to Thomas in competition had a “psychological problem” and was returned to the LGBTQ center of the school.

Trump administration then froze $ 175 million in school funding on March 20. Then, on April 28, the Civil Rights Office of the Department of Education announced that its investigation concluded that Upenn had broken title IX in its treatment of Thomas’ situation.

The Thomas saga at the NCAA 2022 championships is largely considered a cultural turning point in the national debate on transgender athletes in female sports. At the time, the current conservative activist eminent Riley Gaines was only a dental student who was to be satisfied with equality with Thomas in one of the events of the NCAA championship.

Since then, Gaines has taken the lead on an entire political platform focused on the fight against male inclusion in the sports of women and girls, resulting from his experience in competition with Thomas in 2022.

Gaines previously told PK Press Club Digital that it would send a note “thank you” to “people like” Thomas for having attracted attention to the issue at the time, because she believes that he influenced the 2024 elections.

“I think we should send a note of thanks to people like Will Thomas, I really do, signed and sealed by me. I will sign the note of thanks, I will write it, because I think he has given us the election,” said Gaines.

“There was a lot of bad things with Joe Biden, his administration and the Democratic Party as a whole outside of sporting stuff … But it was the perfect visual. It’s like the South Park episode.

A National exit survey Directed by the Legislative Action Committee for women concerned for women for America revealed that 70% of moderate voters saw the question of “Donald Trump’s opposition to boys and transgender men playing sports for girls and women and transgender boys and men using bathrooms and women” as important for them. In addition, 6% said it was everyone’s most important problem, while 44% said it was “very important”.

PK Press Club Digital contacted Upenn and the listed representative of Thomas to comment.
