The attendance of President Donald Trump at the NCAA control championships caused strong reactions from the competitors.
Before Trump entered the Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia at a noisy era of fans, some Penn State wrestlers shared their reflections on the arrival of Trump to look at their attempts as fourth consecutive national championship.
“It is a great honor for the sports sport,” Josh Barr of Penn State said on Friday. “The sports sport is in a place where it needs growth. It needs life and energy behind it, and President Trump brings it.

“We want to bring people to look at, right? We want people to look at the fight. We want people to channel, not just money, but the time of people, and attention is money. So, I think it’s cool. And I think if it was conservative or liberal, it would be really cool,” said Messenbrink.
“Democrat or republican, whoever he is, is the President of the United States. The head of the free world of our wrestling event is really cool when you think about it.”
Trump praised Penn State and all the wrestlers outside the White House on Friday when he talked about participation in the championships.
“We are going to the big fight. The reason for which I go is Philadelphia. They have the NCAA, the world, the fight for the university. And I have always supported the wrestlers,” said Trump. “So I want to support them. These are the major university wrestlers of the different schools. I think Penn State is in the lead, and Nebraska is in second place right now. And many good things.”
The wrestling championships are back at the Philadelphia Wells Fargo Center for the first time since 2011, when Penn State has won everything. This launched a dominant race by the Nittany Lions who continues. They won 11 of the last 13 titles, including the last three.
With a victory on Saturday, it would be their third four peat during this section.
