  • I don’t care what India does with Russia: Trump.
  • The American president says that New Delhi’s prices are the highest in the world.
  • Trump announced the imposing 25% tariffs on Indian products.

With the deadline of August 1 to conclude a trade agreement with the United States expires on Friday (tomorrow), President Donald Trump assaulted India and Russia about trade, saying that he did not care what one or the other.

“I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can withdraw their dead savings together, for everything I care,” said President Trump in an article on X.

“We have done very little with India, their prices are too high, among the highest in the world,” added the president.

The scathing remarks follow Trump’s previous declaration, where he said that Washington and New Delhi were negotiating a trade agreement, after announcing earlier in the day that the United States would impose a price of 25% on imported goods from the country.

The price of 25%, as well as an undeveloped sanction announced by Trump in a morning article on social networks, would excite relations with the most populous democracy in the world.

The 25% figure would constitute more severely India than other major trade partners and would threaten months of talks between the two countries, undergoing a strategic partner in Washington and a counterweight to China.

Responding to the 25% tariff post by Trump, the Indian government said it was studying the implications of Trump’s announcements and was dedicated to the conclusion of a fair trade agreement.

Regarding Trump’s threat, the sanction would not yet be clear. The American president initially indicated that it was for India to buy Russian weapons and oil and its non -monetary commercial barriers.

When he was asked for the penalty in the White House, he said that this was due in part to commercial problems and in part because of the involvement of India in the Brics group of developing countries, which he described as hostile to the American asset in July, the United States would impose an additional 10% price on all countries aligning with the “anti-American policies” of large pieces.

Controversial problem

The White House had previously warned India of its high -average applied prices – almost 39% on agricultural products, with rates climbing 45% on vegetable oils and about 50% on apples and corn.

“While India is our friend, over the years we have done relatively little with them because their prices are far too high, among the highest in the world, and they have the most intense and unpleasant non -monetary trade barriers of all countries,” Trump wrote in a social article of truth.

It should be noted that Russia continued to be the best oil supplier in India in the first six months of 2025, representing 35% of global supplies.

The United States, the world’s largest economy, currently has a trade deficit of $ 45.7 billion with India, the fifth largest.

The economic adviser of the White House, Kevin Hassett, said that Trump had been frustrated by the progress of commercial talks with India and thought that the price announcement of 25% would help the situation.

The new American tax on imports from India would be higher than on many other countries that have concluded agreements with the Trump administration recently. Vietnam’s rate is located at 20%and 19%, while the levy of Japan and the European Union is 15%.

American and Indian negotiators have organized several series of discussions to solve litigious problems, in particular on access to the market to India for American agricultural and dairy products.

In its latest declaration, India said it has attached the greatest importance to the protection and promotion of the well-being of its farmers, entrepreneurs and small businesses.
