President Donald Trump has addressed the wave of sports teams that have undergone changes of names in recent years to remove references to the Amerindian heritage.
Trump described the changes of name “degrading for the Indian population”.
“I think it is degrading for the Indian population, and it is a large population, and they like when they are called by various names,” said Trump.
Trump refused to say if he would try to bring Washington commanders to change their name to Redskins as a condition to build a new stadium on federal property. However, Trump said he thought Redskins was better than the team’s current name.

“I can tell you that I spoke to people of the Indian inheritance who love this name and love this team, and I think it is a name far superior to what they have at the moment and that he had the heritage behind, he had something special,” said Trump.
