The franchise played at the RFK stadium from 1961 to 1996 before moving to Landover, Maryland, at the faculty now known as Northwest Stadium. The owner of the team, Josh Harris, had considered various sites for a new stadium since he bought the team from Daniel Snyder.
Harris said in August that 2030 was a “reasonable target” for a new stadium. He also expressed hope that a future NFL draft takes place in the national shopping center between the American Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial.
The project should cost around $ 4 billion in total. Commanders will contribute to 2.7 billion dollars, the city investing about $ 1.1 billion over the next eight years for the stadium, housing, green and leplex space and 170 acres of land near the Anacostia river.
The stadium should accommodate around 65,000 people and have a roof to house events throughout the year.

“This land has been unleashed and underused for too long,” said Bowser. “What our agreement with Washington commanders provides is the fastest and shortest route to develop the RFK campus, and not only the delivery of sports and entertainment, but offering housing, jobs, leisure and economic development.”
