President Donald Trump said the New York Giants found a “great coach” in John Harbaugh Monday night as he left the College Football League.

Trump had urged the Giants to hire Harbaugh while the former Baltimore Ravens head coach was interviewing the team. A few days later, the Giants made it official and reached a deal with him. Harbaugh has reportedly signed a five-year contract with the franchise.

Trump told reporters on the tarmac before returning to Washington that he wasn’t sure he had any influence on the decision, but that he knew what Harbaugh was capable of.

“But they have a great coach,” Trump said. “I like coach. I like his brother. They came to see me about three months ago. They came to see me at the White House with their mom and dad because mom likes me, and dad likes me and I think they like me.

Trump first supported Harbaugh in an article on Truth Social, then later specifically endorsed the idea of the Giants hiring him.

“The New York Football Giants should hire, without a doubt, John Harbaugh – and John, a great guy, should TAKE THE JOB!!!” he wrote earlier this month.
