President Donald Trump expressed his continued support for Tiger Woods after the golfer’s drunken arrest in Florida after an accident, saying in a recent interview that the five-time Masters champion “lives a life of pain.”
Speaking exclusively to the New York Post on Tuesday, Trump confirmed he spoke with Woods following his arrest at Jupiter Island on Friday afternoon.

“I think he’s doing very well, he’s doing well,” the president told the New York Post, later adding: “He tested negative for alcohol, as you know, and he’s under enormous physical strain with his various illnesses, you know, in his back and his leg.”

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by PK Press Club Digital on Tuesday, deputies with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office reported observing several signs of impairment at the scene, noting that Woods was “sweating profusely” and his movements appeared “lethargic and slow.”
Woods was placed under arrest after performing a series of field sobriety tests, and during a search, law enforcement found “two white pills in Woods’ left pants pocket.” According to the arrest affidavit, the pills were later identified as hydrocodone, a prescription opioid for pain relief.

Woods previously told law enforcement before field sobriety tests that he had seven back surgeries and “over 20 leg surgeries.” He told law enforcement that “I take a few” prescription medications.
“He lives a life of pain. He’s in a lot of pain. He’s an incredible guy. He’s an incredible athlete. He’s in pain,” Trump added Tuesday of Woods. “He doesn’t have a drinking problem, but he’s suffering.”
At the jail, Woods submitted to a breathalyzer test, where he provided results of 0.00 on both samples. He refused to submit to a urine test, which resulted in another charge.
