Kananaskis: US President Donald Trump and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said on Monday that they had finalized a trade agreement concluded between the two allies last month.
Trump, standing alongside Starmer at the Group of Seven summit in Canada, said that the relationship with Great Britain was “fantastic” when he was signaled, then briefly abandoned, a document he had said that he had just signed.
“We have signed it and it is done,” he said, wrongly calling it a trade agreement with the European Union, before clearly concluding that the agreement was with Great Britain.
Starmer said the proclamation would implement the agreements concluded on car rates and aerospace, without providing details. “It’s a very good day for our two countries, a real sign of strength,” he said.
Three sources familiar with the case told Reuters earlier than the proclamation of the terms of the agreement would cover the provisions on the trade in steel, ethanol, cars and beef.
The White House said that the US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lunick would determine a quota for British steel and aluminum imports that could enter the United States without facing the price of 25% of Trump on steel. No other details were immediately available.
Great Britain was the first country to agree on an agreement for Trump’s lower rates, the United States reducing prices on imports of British cars, aluminum and steel, and Great Britain agreeing to reduce prices on American beef and ethanol.
But the implementation of the agreement was delayed while the details were during the flow.
Great Britain qualified the victory agreement for its aerospace and automotive sectors, noting that the United Kingdom was the only country to have concluded such an agreement with Washington.
“Putting into force the commercial transactions can take several months, but we deliver the first set of agreements in a few weeks. And we will not stop there,” British trade secretary Jonathan Reynolds said in a statement.
Reynolds said the two parties had agreed with reciprocal access to 13,000 metric tonnes of beef, while specifying that US imports should meet difficult British food security standards.
He said the two countries are focused on the guarantee of “significantly preferential results” for the British pharmaceutical sector, and the work would continue to protect the industry from any other price imposed within the framework of investigations under article 232 in progress by the US Commerce Department.
Great Britain had avoided prices of up to 50% on steel and aluminum that the United States imposed on other countries earlier this month, but could have faced high prices from July 9 unless the agreement to implement the reduction in prices is reached.
